Collaboration Hack: Make it Radical!

Collaboration Hack: Make it Radical!

Working without a purpose is like sitting on a rocking chair. It keeps you busy but it doesn’t get you anywhere. If this describes your current working status then you might be bored or even exhausted!

The truth is, a lot of employees today are working without a clear purpose resulting in not being involved and eventually losing their passion at work.

The 2017 Gallup Institute’s “State of the Global Workplace” report revealed that only 13% of employees are involved in their work, 76% do not feel involved and 12% are actively disengaged in Switzerland.

According to Otto Scharmer:
“These times call for a new consciousness and a new collective leadership capacity to meet these challenges in a more conscious, intentional, and strategic way.”

This inspired our provider to think of a way to reinvent a new style of approach at work. One that requires more adaptive, inclusive, connected, and purpose-driven ways.

Both Severin and Oliver, the team members of Euforia who call themselves a Business Enabler and a Bridge Builder have spent some time telling us more about their work, the why, how, and what of their impactful offering.

We are facing an environment that is highly unpredictable and characterized by globalization with the phenomenon of digitization, uberisation and the arrival of generation X, Y, and Z in the labor market. At the same time, the success of today’s companies depends on their ability to evoke a shared purpose for its employees and stakeholders.”

Discover Your Inner Potential

Euforia is a social innovation enterprise that trusts in the natural potential of individuals to work well together and be innovative. They encourage participants to go out of their comfort zone in order to get a better result.

Radical collaboration

Coming from the belief that the world needs more people who come together to imagine, design, and implement bold solutions for today’s most pressing challenges, the team works with a concept of radical collaboration.

They trust in the natural potential of individuals to work well together and to be innovative. This means that they focus on the essentials of collaboration and work with individuals, teams, and organizations to help them unleash their inherent potential. Consequently, they want to foster trust and collaborative skills as a success factor for innovation and sustainability.

And they have a workshop fully dedicated to the topic of Radical Collaboration.

Creating an inclusive learning environment

The team further explains how they create an inclusive learning environment. It’s in the set of behaviours, models, and techniques that make it happen:

  • Inclusive and collaborative space holding – They create an empowering, non-hierarchy learning environment.
  • Transformational learning – They take their participants out of their comfort zones to get to significant personal development.
  • Inner and outer work (tool and mindset) – The ASK Model (Attitude, Skill, and Knowledge) is the three basic components of their teaching.

Purpose and values-led work

The team is both purpose and values-led. And they describe experiences they offer by their five core values, which are at the core of their daily work and have accompanied them throughout the past years.:

  1. Dedication and impact: They are unsatisfied with the current world and dedicated to taking action.
  2. Authenticity: Euphoria stands for idealism, creativity, passion, naivety, flexibility, subversiveness, diversity, spiciness and integrity.
  3. Joie de vivre and Whole-being: Fun, meaning, and friendship fuel them. However, they do not hesitate to stand up for personal needs.
  4. Radical Collaboration: They allow everyone to reach her/his full potential.
  5. Oops culture: Be ambitious, be courageous, dare to doubt yourself, and enjoy the right to fail.

Collaboration Hack: Make it Radical!

Into the learning and stretch zone

The deep interest in the inherent potential of individuals and teams is what drives the team. This involves leaving the comfort zone and going into the learning or stretch zone. One way this might create challenges is when individuals and teams learn about their preferences and their defense mechanisms. Turning the camera around at oneself and looking at your own blindspots is not so easy.

However, in the long run, this helps to better collaborate, be more open for solutions that don’t meet our usual choices. It is all about impact and effectiveness. “Getting things done” is one leitmotif when we work together.

“What we are not focussing on is sole efficiency. How to do things better without knowing if we do the right things seems meaningless to us. We do not consult on how to have a faster process but we create spaces where our clients can reflect on what the outcome of the process should be in the end.”

Lasting memories and impact

We have asked Severin and Oliver to share their best memories of the work they have done. Here is what they said:

“Definitely one of my most memorable moment was when a group of top managers from an international bank was dancing and singing together 30 minutes into the workshop.

Another lasting memory is when I met a member of a team from an NGO at a conference, whom I had done a workshop with one year previously,… He told me that our intervention is the best thing that could have happened to team and had opened so many possibilities for them to improve and deepen their collaboration. They were having a safe space to talk about what was really important for them.”
